The Museum of African American Art (MAAA) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) institution founded in 1976 by artist and scholar Dr. Samella Lewis. Located on Level 2 at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza shopping mall in Los Angeles at 3650 W Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Suite 283, MAAA provides free admission and serves as an accessible cultural hub for the community. Green practices: MAAA minimizes environmental impact by repurposing an existing mall space as its main gallery, encouraging public transit access, donating old art frames to another nonprofit art organization for reuse (instead of discarding them), and promoting sustainability through education and community engagement. Certified through a Green Business Network program (Certified Level).
