WE ARE OPEN! In 1989 we were established as an emergency food program in the aftermath of the devastating Loma Prieta Earthquake. Our PANTRY and LUNCH programs provide a critical nutrition safety net for Pajaro Valley residents, including the City of Watsonville where nearly 16% of residents live below the poverty line. In 2019 we served the highest number of individuals in 30 years of nourishing our hungry neighbors … 62,496 individuals, an 11% increase over the 56,464 individuals in 2018. Green practices: Loaves and Fishes is a green organization because we recognize green practices improve the quality of life for our clients, employees, volunteers, and planet Initially transitioning from giving out plastic bags to asking our clients to bring their own reusable bags took some time. Now all of our returning Pantry participants bring their own bags. Certified through a Green Business Network program (Certified Level).
