Born from disaster, our organization began when Peace Corps volunteers helped rebuild Central American communities after a devastating hurricane. Inspired by resilience and cooperation, they returned to the U.S. to create a nonprofit rooted in sustainable living and community connection, naming it “Aprovecho.” In 1981, they purchased forty acres near Cottage Grove, Oregon, previously clear-cut and mismanaged. Certified through a Green Business Network program (Ambassador).
