The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) is an independent special district in the San Francisco Bay Area that has preserved over 65,000 acres of public open space across 26 preserves. These areas offer diverse ecosystems including redwood, oak, and fir forests, chaparral-covered hillsides, riparian corridors, meadows, grasslands, and shoreline along San Francisco Bay. Midpen's mission is to acquire and preserve a regional greenbelt of open space land in perpetuity; protect and restore the natural environment; and provide opportunities for ecologically sensitive public enjoyment and education.
