The César E. Chávez Branch of the Oakland Public Library houses the Seedfolks Seed Library, a free urban seed project committed to increasing the community's capacity to grow wholesome food. The library fosters community resilience, self-reliance, and a culture of sharing by providing seeds to anyone interested, without the need for a library card. Patrons are encouraged to let some plants go to seed and return these next-generation seeds for others to borrow. There are no fines if you are unable to return the seeds.
