The San Francisco Environment Department advances climate protection and enhances quality of life for all San Franciscans. The department provides public education and outreach, conducts reviews, makes recommendations on proposed City legislation to include long-term environmental goals, works to increase visibility of local environmental issues, and coordinates the work of city environmental services for increased effectiveness. Programs include: Energy issues; Environmental justice; Environmental policy; Green building; Less-toxic Pest Management; Less-toxic Purchasing; Ocean Beach; Precautionary Principle; Recycling; School Education; Toxic disposal & reduction; Transportation & clean air; Urban Forest. Also, publishes a Directory of Bay Area Hazardous Waste Management and Recycling Firms.
